On July 4th ,iWIN were hosted by EY at a breakfast session in the stunning Vista room, with views over the river and the City. The event was hosted by Barbara Merry, iWIN Chair, and Denise Larnder, EY Assurance Partner, supported by Adreann Catalano, EY TAS Senior Manager. The session focussed on disruption in the insurance space and brought together nearly 40 women working within the insurance sector across all service lines as well as iWIN members working in the insurance industry in the London market.
Barbara Merry described the event as ‘truly fascinating and thought provoking.' Barbara added, ‘Insights into the future world are both exciting and unnerving and the EY team gave us the opportunity to step up in terms of our understanding of future potential.'
Hannah Leach, EY Fintech Manager, opened the session with an overview of the FinTech market, introduced the concept of InsurTech and discussed the growth of companies’ Fintech strategies in the financial sector. Ruth Middleton, EY Risk Senior Manager, continued the presentation with an overview of the new technologies improving customer experiences in the insurance sector and provided an update on the latest trends in disruption to traditional business models. Key messages included the opportunities and risks involved with evolving financial technology as well as discussion of the impact on the insurance and pensions markets. The presentations concluded with Q&A from the audience.
The session was an excellent opportunity for EY people to build their network within the insurance industry and develop relationships with iWIN members as well as network internally with other colleagues working with clients in the insurance industry. The event demonstrated the alignment of iWIN’s and EY’s diversity and inclusiveness agendas. Denise added, “EY is delighted to support iWIN in this way, and the combination of spot on presentations and lively networking and debate was a winning one.”
