The Livery Committee invites members and guests to join them for a poetry evening with a difference.

Rather than a conventional poetry reading we are going to have an evening learning how to read and interpret a poem.

Our speaker Helen Stockton is a published poet and will provide you with one of her poems plus another famous poem which we can discuss.

Helen will promote discussion with questions such as:

• What is a poem?

• What distinguishes it from prose?

• Can it be a poem if it doesn't rhyme?'

We shall be examining these questions and looking at how a poem works so that you can escape the confines of schoolroom horrors and begin to truly appreciate this art form

Arrangements

The talk and discussion will last an hour, including questions, and then Helen will stay on for 30 minutes for drinks and socialising.
