Bringing insurance to life with the Livery Schools Link

The two day Livery Schools Link Careers Fair at Guildhall was a wonderful opportunity to bring insurance to life and inspire school students with the wide range of career opportunities available in insurance.

The WCI team was led and co-ordinated by Giles Ward who said the two days were constantly busy: “Day one saw loads of enthusiastic primary school children getting engaged with issues around risk and insurance while the second day with secondary school pupils was a great day of conversations about career opportunities.

“There was a great game of risk analysis and we got fantastic feedback from Master Educator Janet Reynolds to say she had been delighted with the level of engagement from students”, said Giles.

The stand had two activities to help generate interest and discussion.

There was Sam Ridgewell’s excellent game where you have to work out which event goes with which type of insurance and how much the associated claims cost.

When Master Claire Burrell visited she was quickly drawn into a lively discussion about the value of Kim Kardashian’s jewellery and the repair bill for Mr Bean’s McLaren F1 car.

There was also a quiz to rank the riskiest ways of travelling per mile.

“We had over 130 entries for this and only five correct answers. People often think aeroplane travel is more dangerous and walking safer than they actually are. I will be writing to the schools of the respective winners and sorting out some prizes for them”, said Giles.

As well as the Master, Sheriff Alderman Bronek Masojada found time to visit the stand.
