The Master's Charity
Each Master nominates a charity that will be the focus of the Company's fundraising during their year in office.
Master Claire Burrell has chosen Skylarks, a London-based charity providing activities and therapies for children with disabilities and additional needs, as her Master's Charity.
It is an independent charity offering a range of activities for children with additional needs, their siblings and parents/carers, both online and face-to-face. It runs sessions on Tuesdays and Fridays in term time at the Crossway Centre in Twickenham. Skylarks also offers other activities in a variety of locations and via Zoom on other days and during the holidays. All activities are open to families who have children with any additional needs from anywhere and are free of charge.
Skylarks has been awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, along with being supported by Global’s Make Some Noise, appearing on Capital FM, Heart and LBC. It was shortlisted for the BAPS Awards in 2020 and won its category in the National Diversity Awards in 2020/21 and was also shortlisted finalists for the Children and Young People’s awards 2022. In July 2023 it won Best Organisation for Children with Disabilities and Additional Needs at the prestigious 2023 Non-Profit Organisation Awards.
There will be plenty of opportunities to hear from Skylarks and dontae to them during Claire's year as Master.
