Master heralds “accessible and visible” livery in Mansion House address

Master Nick Dunlop said the Worshipful Company of Insurers was making great strides towards being more accessible and more visible when he spoke at last night’s Mansion House Banquet, attended by the Lord Mayor, Nicholas Lyons (pictured top right), and 300 members and their guests.

He spoke about how the company was meeting his objectives for his year in office – Sustainable, Accessible, Visible and Enjoyable.

“We all have a pivotal role and responsibility to deliver a sustainable future. So we’re working with other Livery companies, who represent key real economy industries, to see how we can achieve this together.

“We’re delighted to see our iWIN inclusion network and our iEngage group for our younger professionals flourishing and showing that this industry and our livery is accessible for all. We all know that diverse businesses just do better so we’re working hard through our programmes to grow and nurture diverse talent.

Being more accessible also means being more visible in the wider community: “We’re rebuilding our education programmes to enable us to show more school age talent what’s on offer in our business”, he said.

“The Worshipful Company of Insurers is certainly more visible than ever within the City Civic. How exciting to share a table with not only you my Lord Mayor, a member of our company, but also Alderwoman Sue Langley and Alderman Bronek Masojada. Both of whom are “sizing the drapes” for the Sheriff's apartments at The Old Bailey and we are looking forward to working with them in the year ahead. We also have most of the seven Insurer Common Councillors here tonight. I hope we can continue to grow this presence and contribution.”

He said he was especially proud to be able to welcome a Lord Mayor, who is also an Insurer.

“We are very proud that you our Lord Mayor are a member of our company. I hope that you feel that you are with ‘your people’ this evening. We’re incredibly grateful for everything that you do to fly the flag for the insurance industry in the City and indeed the UK. We recognise that we have a key role in supporting and funding the transition of our economy and our society to a more sustainable future. Thank you for understanding this role and placing it at the heart of your mayoralty.”

The evening was also an opportunity to welcome Dan Glaser (pictured top second from right)) as the WCI’s latest global insurance leader to be honoured as an International Freeman of the Company.

“You have always been an immense supporter of this market. As a trader, a client guy, broker, underwriter, a CEO, an employer, an influencer and a leader.

“Like many others in this room You’ve always seen the value of the Transatlantic business axis and you’ve cared about nurturing it.

“I hope you will continue to be part of our Company and this City and be part of our growing global footprint in New York, London, Bermuda and Singapore."
