Past Master Rosemary Beaver wins prestigious award

Past Master Rosemary Beaver was honoured last night at the prestigious Women in Insurance Awards when she was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award.

The facilitator of the 30-strong judging panel, David Worsfold, told the 600 strong audeince at the Park Lane Hilton why Rosemary had been the overwhelming choice of the judges.

"She has not always chosen a high profile for herself but her professionalism – and that word sums up so many of her qualities – has left its mark wherever she has been.

"For over thirty years she has tirelessly given up time to mentor young professionals, helping many women get a firmer grip on those often slippery early rungs of the career ladder.

"At the turn of the century, she did much to repair and enhance the reputation of Lloyd’s around the world, promoting and maintaining trading rights in over 80 countries.

"With professionalism as her guiding light she has contributed to the work and governance of the Insurance Institute of London and the Chartered Insurance Institute.

"Her work with the industry’s own livery company, the Worshipful Company of Insurers, has been ground-breaking. In 2019 she became the first female Master of the Company, having led a huge growth in female participation in the Company at all levels.

"She was at the helm when Covid struck and it was through her leadership that the Company came out of the pandemic stronger than it went in."

As her name was announced the audience rose to its feet to applaud her.

Unfortuantely, she could not attend but sent a video message that praised the women who had inspired and encouraged her on her career.

It is hoped to present the award to her at a future Livery event.

• Congratulations also go WCI members Kishan Mangat who was named Insurance Lawyer of the Year and Bethany Thomas who scooped the Insurance Broker of the Year award.
