WCI backs TeamUK's campaign to promote London

The Worshipful Company of Insurers is backing the campaign launched this week by the Lady Mayor of the City of London, Dame Susan Langley, to reinforce London’s position as one of the world’s leading destinations for investment and to stand up to disinformation.

“Around the world cities and nations are competing harder than ever for capital, talent and influence. They are promoting their strengths and telling their stories with confidence, clarity and conviction. We must stand up and do the same and not allow inaccurate stories to colour how the world perceives us", said the Lady Mayor.

“This matters because what starts online doesn’t stay online. It seeps into boardrooms and companies. Team UK is about bringing together the full strength of British businesses to tell a clear confident story about what makes our country exceptional and to ensure the world hears it. Because the truth is London is a fantastic City in which to live, work and invest - one of the greatest economic success stories in the world. It's down to all of us to tell the truth about our City, not because we are defensive, but because we are proud.

“Every positive investment decision in the U.K. creates a ripple effect far beyond just one company and creates real jobs. That’s why speaking up together for Britain is important, and I thank the trade associations and industry for their support for the Team UK campaign.”

WCI Master Sara Fardon said these are critical messages to get across and urged members to help promote the campaign.

“This is an important campaign. We cannot let the narrative about London, financial services and insurance be dominated by misinformation. I am delighted that the Lady Mayor has taken the lead and launched this campaign and the Worshipful Company of Insurers is 100% behind it.

“We need to get these positive messages about our City and its great financial and professional services businesses out far and wide. I urge all of our members to support it by sharing the social media posts and the message from the Lady Mayor."

As well as a wide-ranging social media campaign, the columns at the front of Mansion House have been adorned with banners carrying the key messages (see above). The Master has urged members to take a selfie in front of Mansion House and share it with colleagues and friends on their social media channels.
