WCI signs Armed Forces Covenant

The Worshipful Company of Insurers strengthened its commitment to support our armed forces this week when it signed the Armed Forces Covenant at a packed ceremony at Drapers’ Hall.

Master Karl Jarvis signed the Covenant with Air Vice Marshal Ranald Munro CB CBE TD VR DL ADC.

Master Karl Jarvis said that as a son of a Royal Engineer he was especially proud to be signing the Covenant. He also spoke about the skills that former military personnel have to offer and praised the work the Lloyd’s Military Network does to recruit military veterans to the insurance industry.

He read out a message from Lady Mayoress Florence King:

“Having your Masters’ signature today gives the Lord Mayor real weight when the City of London asks big businesses why they aren’t doing more - the Livery’s 100% commitment to the covenant gets the City of London at the front of the pack.

“The motto for the military training establishment Pirbright is “Bello te Prepares” - prepare yourself for war. By signing today, you are helping Britain to insure itself against war by showing the strength in our numbers and resolve.”

The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise by the nation that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces—and their families—should be treated fairly and should not face disadvantage when seeking access to public or private goods and services in the UK.

When organisations sign the Covenant, they do so to publicly demonstrate their support for the UK’s Armed Forces community, including serving personnel, veterans, reservists, and military families.

The WCI has a range of military affiliations:

  • Kent and Sharpshooters Yeomanry and its links to the serving Army reserve units, 265 support squadron and C squadron Royal Yeomanry,
  • Middlesex and Northwest London cadets,
  • HMS Audacious, a serving nuclear submarine
  • RAF 1034 (Surbiton) cadet squadron
  • Marine Voluntary Cadet Corp – cadet band
