Book NowThe Worshipful Company of Glovers of London is inviting entries to the Inter-Livery Golf Croquet Competition which will take place at the Sussex County Croquet Club on Saturday 27 June.
Golf Croquet is a game with a long history and a recent resurgence of interest at all levels. Compared with Association Croquet it has simpler rules and is more interactive (each turn is just a single stroke), but it requires a similar level of accuracy and tactical awareness.
Golf Croquet players follow a course contesting each hoop in turn; as soon as one hoop is scored all players move on to contest the next - a simple idea that leads to rich tactical thinking.
As this competition has grown, so has the standard of croquet among participants in the “A” event—the “Glovers Cup.” On the other hand, the “B” competition, known as the “Inter-Livery Challenge,” continues to be an enjoyable tournament designed for those with little or no experience, where coaching will be provided. Both events are played in pairs and Livery Companies are invited to enter two teams, with the option of a third pair if there is space.
Arrangements
Entries • Email Paul Brown by 30 April 2026 with your players’ names, any non-player places needed, dietary requirements, team entry (Glovers’ Cup or Inter-Livery Challenge), and the recipient's name and email for invoicing (one invoice per livery company). Entries are accepted in order of receipt if oversubscribed.
Cost • £85 for players, £60 for non-players, includes coffee or tea on arrival, lunch and afternoon tea.
Location • The location of SCCC and other useful details are to be found on their website. Car parking is available at the venue.
Dress • Comfortable summer attire is suggested, and white clothing is also acceptable if you prefer. SCCC maintains a strict shoe policy to protect the lawns: only flat shoes are allowed; heels or heavily ridged soles are not permitted. Changing rooms are available at the club, and you may want to bring suitable clothes in case of wet weather.
Equipment • Mallets will be available.
Coaching • For those who require it, an introduction to Golf Croquet will be given from 09:45 to 10:00.
