Book NowThe Sharpshooters, one of the WCI's long-standing military affiliations, will be unveiling their restored 1963 Guidon [the equivalent of Regimental Colours for light cavalry regiments] at their Museum in the grounds of Hever Castle.
The guidon has been restored through crowdfunding and funds from the Worshipful Company of Insurers. The Master will be saying a few words during the unveiling. We’d be delighted if any Insurers, their families and guests would like to attend.
The Sharpshooters are using this as an opportunity to celebrate the 80th anniversaries of VE & VJ Day too.
The Museum and castle grounds will be open during the day and there is a fmaily BBQ after the ceremony.
Arrangements
Guests are requested to arrive at the Museum between 11am and 11.40am.
The museum will be open from 10.30am.
The guidon will be formally unveiled at 12 noon and handed over by Colonel Simon McMenemy the Honorary Colonel of C (Kent and Sharpshooters Yeomanry) Sqn, The Royal Yeomanry to the Chairman of the Regimental Museum Trust and subsequently be taken into the Museum and installed in its new home in the Boris Mollo Gallery.
The families of two former 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) will also formally hand over the wartime diaries of their fathers for safe keeping and future study in the Museum archives.
On completion of the handover of the archive documents visitors will be invited to view the guidon in its new home together with the recently conserved Elham Troop guidon which dates back to 1795 and is also on display for the first time.
The museum will remain open for the afternoon.
The BBQ will start at 1pm and finish at 5pm.
