Keeping the Company Going Through the Crisis

The Company is working hard to keep abreast of the myriad challenges created by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Master has sent a communication to all Members today setting out what is being done and urging Members to keep in touch. She has also recorded a video message to all members (see below).

“I am sending all my thoughts and good wishes to all Members across our Fellowship and hoping you and your families and friends are safe and well. Also, that you are coping with whatever extraordinary measures you, your households and business have had to adopt to keep optimistic and carry on.

“Since our last bulletin, our Acting Clerk, Victoria King and I have been taking steps to keep the Company running, re-engineer the Livery year in these challenging times, and accelerate work on some key projects.

“The office is now functioning remotely and Victoria and Zoe, our accountant, have been working extraordinarily hard to maintain our service to members from their homes. I have been staying in touch with all our key stakeholders within and outside the Livery across the City of London to ensure our influence and relationships remain strong. (see Message to Lord Mayor)

“The Wardens, Treasurer, Past Masters and I are holding the necessary meetings remotely to make sure we are overseeing governance, finances and future plans properly. We will hold a Court meeting in May in this way. The Chair of Trustees, John Young, is already looking with his Trustees at what the Charitable Trusts can do to assist the most needy and those most impacted by Covid-19 stresses. The Chairs of all the Committees are continuing to work closely together on plans for our Fellowship, Philanthropy and Education activities despite the serious impediments caused by the pandemic. We will update you on their successes in the coming weeks.

“Meanwhile, we have accelerated plans to launch the long-overdue new WCI website. Without this we did not feel we could communicate well with Members and the wider insurance community in the coming weeks and months. Acting Clerk, Victoria, and Liveryman David Worsfold have worked tirelessly over the last two weeks with our web consultants on the new site. I am really grateful to them for delivering a platform that will properly profile our Company and enable us to share news with you much more effectively and in modern formats, linked to social media. In due course, we hope this new website will support members with better information and processes.

“In the meantime, tell us what you think of the first phase and bear with us while we bed it in. If you have news you want to share please do contact Victoria and David on or make use of our social media channels.

“I have also shared my priorities for the Company over the coming weeks, and will be updating you and in touch again as soon as I can.

"With thoughts and best wishes to you all."
